　閉塞型睡眠時無呼吸症（Obstructive Sleep Apnea: OSA）は，いわゆる生活習慣病である高血圧，糖尿病，脂質異常症との合併が多く，OSAの治療を行うことで生存率の低下が改善することがわかっている．口腔内装置（Oral Appliance: OA）治療は現在のところ，単純いびき症，軽症，中等症，ときに重症のOSAまで広く対象となっており，現在様々な口腔内装OAが開発されている．OA療法は OSAのゴールドスタンダートといわれている持続陽圧呼吸（Continuous Positive Airway Pressure: CPAP）療法よりもアドヒアランスが良好であるものの，OAを短期間あるいは長期間使用することにより生じうる副作用や奏効しないという理由でOA治療を断念してしまう患者も少なくない．
　喉頭の筋，特にオトガイ舌筋は上気道開存性の維持に最も重要な筋で，上気道が陰圧になると収縮して気道を開く働きがあるが，OSAの患者の30％超でこの反応が低下していることがわかっている．舌下神経を電気的に刺激する電極を埋め込む治療（上気道刺激装置埋め込み術）が行われており，その有効性が報告されているが，手術による侵襲を伴うため積極的に推奨することが困難な現状がある．
　そこでOSA患者の身体的特徴としてオトガイ舌筋の硬度について健常者と異なる傾向等が認められれば，筋のエクササイズ等を行わせることで筋の硬度を低下させる工夫ができ，口腔内装置やCPAP等の装置による治療や外科的治療を行う際にもその治療効果を向上させる一助となると考えられる．
　今回はまず，OSA患者と健常者のオトガイ舌筋の硬度を測定し比較することで，OSA患者の身体的特徴を検討したい．

顎口腔機能に問題を認めない正常有歯顎者で，本学歯学部生および医療従事者のうち研究目的を理解し同意を得た者

除外基準/Key exclusion criteria

現在矯正治療中の者，耳鼻咽喉領域に疾患をもつ者，BMI≧25の者，体重減量を目的としたダイエット中の者，検出閾値3％の酸素飽和度低下指数（oxygen desaturation index:以下 ODI-3）≧5の者
