メンタルヘルスリテラシーを以下のように評価する。
（１）メンタルヘルスや精神疾患に対する一般的な知識を自己記入式質問紙(Yamaguchi et al., 2020) により評価する。正解の場合は1点として、合計点を算出する。（質問は中学生にも理解できるように文言を調整することがある。）
（２）うつ病・統合失調症・パニック症の事例を読み、①事例の状態は相談の必要性があるか、②事例と同じ状態になった時、誰かに相談しようと思うか、③事例と同じ状態の友人を助けようと思うかを自己記入式質問紙(Yamaguchi et al., 2020) により評価する。①～③のスコアのつけ方はYamaguchi et al. (2020)と同様に行う。④事例の状態の人への心理的な距離感をsocial distance scale (Yap 2014) により評価する。⑤事例の状態の人はどのような状態である可能性が高いか、次の選択肢から選ばせる（別に病気ではない、うつ病、統合失調症、摂食障害、パニック症、社交不安症（社交恐怖症）、分からない）。⑥事例と同じ状態になった時に、周りの人から「誰かに相談した方がいいよ」とアドバイスされた場合どうするか、次の選択肢から選ばせる（相談する、たぶん相談する、たぶん相談しない、相談しない）。(⑥は2022/07/30に追加)
各アウトカムの測定は介入の直前・直後・3か月後に行う。

Mental health literacy will be assessed as follows. (1) General knowledge about mental health and illnesses will be assessed using a self-reported questionnaire (Yamaguchi et al., 2020). Each correct answer will be scored as 1 and all answers will be added up to make total score. (The wording of the questionnaire items will be modified so that junior high school students can read and understand the questions.)
(2) After reading 3 vignettes which describe 3 teenage students with depression, schizophrenia or panic disorder, the following items will be assessed, (a) "Recognition of the necessity to seek help" (b) "Intention to seek help" and (c) "Intention to help peers with the illnesses" using a self-reported questionnaire (Yamaguchi et al.,2020). Scoring methods by Yamaguchi et al., (2020) will be applied to (a)-(c). In addition to the items above, (d) stigmatizing attitudes towards each mental illness will be assessed using social distance scale (Yap et al., 2014). Also, (e) respondents will be asked to answer "What illness does each student in the vignettes suffer from?". Response options will be as follows: no illness: depression: schizophrenia: eating disorder: panic disorder: social anxiety disorder (social phobia): I don't know. Additionally, (f) respondents will be asked to answer the following: Imagine that you are having the same condition as each student in the vignettes. Would you talk to someone if you were given advice that "you had better talk to someone" from people around you? Response options will be as follows: I would: I probably would: I probably would not: I would not. ((f) was added 2022/07/30)
Each outcome will be assessed at immediately before, immediately after and 3 months after the intervention.

副次アウトカム評価項目/Key secondary outcomes

（１）精神的健康状態をWHO-5の日本語版(Awata et al., 2007)により評価する。（評価には合計点を用いる。）質問紙は中学生にも理解できるように文言を調整することがある。
（２）自身の精神不調について、実際に誰かに相談したかを自己記入式質問紙により評価する。
（３）普段（この1~2か月）の平日と休日の睡眠時間を計算するため、次の質問に答えてもらう。“次の日に学校がある時は、何時に寝ますか”、“学校がある日は、何時に起きますか”、“お休みの前日は、何時に寝ますか”、“お休みの日は、何時に起きますか”。
各アウトカムの測定は介入の直前と3か月後に行う。

(1) Mental health (well-being) will be assessed using the Japanese version of the WHO-5 (Awata et al., 2007). (Total score for WHO-5 will be used.) The wording of the questionnaire items will be modified so that junior high school students can read and understand the questions.
(2) Actual help-seeking behavior for respondents' own mental health problems will be examined using self-report items.
(3) Questions about usual bedtimes and wake-up times (in the past 1-2 months) on school days and weekend days will be used to calculate Time-in-bed. The questions will be as follows: "What time (hour and minute) do you usually go to bed on school nights?" and "What time (hour and minute) do you usually wake up on school days?", and "What time (hour and minute) do you usually go to bed on weekend nights?" and "What time (hour and minute) do you usually wake up on weekends?", respectively.
Each outcome will be assessed at immediately before and 3 months after the intervention.

メンタルヘルスリテラシーに関する50分間の授業を学校教員が実施する。授業内容には、以下の内容が含まれる。
（１）精神疾患は発症頻度が高く、5人に1人が罹患すること、（２）精神不調の問題は睡眠等の生活習慣と大きく関わっていること、（３）信頼できる大人に助けを求めることが、精神不調の問題を解決する鍵となること、（４）うつ病や統合失調症、パニック症を含む複数の精神疾患の症状に関する知識、（５）精神不調の問題を抱えている友人をサポートするスキル。
（１）～（３）と、（４）および（５）、の説明には、それぞれアニメーションを用いる。（５）ではロールプレイを通した学習も行う。

One 50-minute session regarding mental health literacy will be delivered by school teacher. Topics covered in the session will be as follows: (1) mental illnesses being common, experienced by 1 in 5 people, (2) mental health problems being closely associated with lifestyle such as sleep habits, (3) seeking help from reliable adults being a key to solving the problems, (4) knowledge about the symptoms of several mental illnesses including depression, schizophrenia, and panic disorder, and (5) skills to support peers with mental health problems.
(1)-(3) will be taught using an animated film, and (4) & (5) will be described using another animated film.(5) will also be taught through role-playing.

統計解析
全ての解析はintention-to-treatで行う。Yamaguchi et al. (2020) と同様に、連続変数の解析にはlinear mixed modelを、二値変数の解析にはlogistic regression mixed modelを用いる。これらの混合効果モデルは、“missing at random”の仮定のもとで、アウトカムに欠測データがある場合でも、バイアスのない解析が可能である(Bell & Fairclough, 2014)。

Statistical analysis
All analyses will be carried out on an intention-to-treat basis. In accordance with Yamaguchi et al. (2020), mixed-effects models, i.e. linear mixed models and logistic regression mixed models will be used for the analyses of continuous and dichotomous outcome variables. Mixed models are robust against missing data, that are "missing at random", in outcome variables (Bell & Fairclough, 2014).
