Acute infectious gastroenteritis is usually self-limited and is treated with supportive measures. Causative pathogens, such as norovirus, are very contagious and frequenly cause nosocomial outbreaks. Reduction the duration of symptoms is important to prevent new case of infection. In this study, we investigate the effect of probiotics versus Goreisan in adults with acute infectious gastroenteritis.

Goreisan (Tsumura & Co.) 7.5g per day three times a day for 5 days
LAC-B granular powder N (Kowa Co.) 3g per day three times a day for 5 days

Male and Female
Eligibility criteria are an age of 20 years and older, a symptom of diarrhea or vomiting, a diagnosis of acute infectious gastroenteritis by a physician.
Under 20 years old
An inability to obtain informed consent
Patients with gastrointestinal tract problems (e.g colon cancer, inflammatory bowel disease)
Patients who need antibiotics for treatment
Pregnant or suspicion of being pregnant
Female with brest feeding
Patients with known severe liver dysfunction
