Key inclusion criteria

1) Patients with a history of visiting the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Tokyo Metropolitan Children Medical Center (TMCMC)
2) Patients in whom pervasive development disorder or hyperkinetic disorder was diagnosed by a child psychiatrist at TMCMC using ICD-10
3) Patients with a police record of theft
4) Patients between age 13 and 18 years old when apprehended for theft
5) Patients deemed to have no risk or a reduced risk of further stealing after careful consultation with the attending doctor
6) Patients consenting to participation in this study

Key exclusion criteria

1) Patients with an intelligence quotient of less than, or equal to 70
2) Patients who experienced a mood disorder (depression or manic) at the time of theft
3) Patients who were abusing alcohol or drugs at the time of theft
4) Patients assessed by a doctor as unfit for the study
