Objectives
Narrative objectives1 The purpose of this study is to compare the stronger reaction of patients with depression to unpleasant images than to pleasant ones, which is assumed in depressed patients, to the findings from previous MRI studies by measuring the amount of heat generated by brain activity, using the depression detection system.

Assessment
Primary outcomes 1. Determinants of depression.
2. The possibility of change caused by treatment in the amount of heat generated by brain activity.
3. Predictors before treatment for the amount of heat generated by brain activity, responding to treatment.
Key secondary outcomes 1. The relationship to near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) signals, whose diagnostic significance has been established.

Key inclusion criteria 1. Patients who are diagnosed with major depression according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) and are currently depressed (The score should be 7 or higher).
2. Patients between the ages of 20-65.
3. Patients who scored higher than 70 of estimated premorbid IQ in JART(Japanese Adult Reading Test).
Key exclusion criteria 1. Patients who have strong suicidal ideation.
2. Patients who are currently being treated for alcohol/drug abuse.
3. Patients who have serious physical illness.
4.Patients who were determined by their doctors or head researchers to be inappropriate for research subjects for other reasons.
