Key inclusion criteria

-The fourth grade dental students of Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU), who attend a course of Removable Partial Prosthodontics.

Key exclusion criteria

-Students who are not able to use the e-Learning system in TMDU.
-Students who repeat the course of Removable Partial Prosthodontics.

The instructional style (ref. lecture) was significantly and positively correlated with team readiness assurance test (TRAT) scores (coefficient [95% CI]: 4.6 [2.0, 7.3]), but it was not correlated with IRAT (4.3 [-0.45, 9.0]).

Baseline Characteristics

Students in the fourth grade of a 6-year Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) program at a dental school, specifically for the fiscal years 2017, 2018, and 2019.

Participant flow

137 students were allocated to one of two instructional groups, i.e., flipped (n=70) or lecture (n=67), via simple randomization. 7 out of the flipped group did not want to receive flipped classroom then received lecture. There was no lost to follo-up.

Adverse events

no adverse events.

Outcome measures

The primary outcome measures were individual readiness assurance test (IRAT) score and team readiness assurance test (TRAT) score.
