Results

The median postoperative QTc interval with 5 ml/h epidural levobupivacaine was significantly prolonged compared to baseline. Using the linear regression model, ephedrine dosage was detected as a significant independent variable, and the coefficient was 1.7 ms.

Baseline Characteristics

The median age of the patients was 72 (male/female 17/11), the medical history of whom were 1 coronary artery disease and 6 diabets. The median surgical time was 210 min.

Participant flow

An epidural catheter was inserted before induction of general anesthesia, and a test dose of 1% lidocaine (1.5 mL) with epinephrine (1:100,000) was used to confirm epidural catheter insertion. The baseline QTc interval was recorded before the epidural tap, and postoperative QTc was recorded at the end of surgery following tracheal extubation.

Adverse events

None

Outcome measures

The postoperative QTc interval was used as the primary outcome to evaluate the potential risk of perioperative arrhythmogenicity.
