Key inclusion criteria

Those with a body mass index of 23 kg/m2 or more but less than 40 kg/m2
Those who can install the diet application on their smartphones
Office workers who understand the purpose and contents of the study and provide written informed consent

Key exclusion criteria

Those who have a history of heart disease or cerebrovascular disease
Those who are currently pregnant or desire pregnancy during the study
Those who have exhibited significant changes in body weight during the last six months
Those whose cohabiting family member participated in this study
Those who are judged as unsuitable for the study by the principal investigator for other reasons

Results

The reduced body weight was 2.4 kg and 0.7 kg in the intervention and control groups, respectively. An analysis of covariance adjusted for related variables showed a significant between-group difference in body weight change (p = 0.011).

Participant flow

168 enrolled for assessment.
156 assessed for eligibility.
141 were randomized into the intervention group (n = 72) and the control group (n = 69).
One participant in the intervention group discontinued the trial.
The dataset for the remaining 140 participants was included in the primary analysis.

Adverse events

The participants reported no clinically significant adverse events.

Outcome measures

The reduced body weight was 2.4 kg and 0.7 kg in the intervention and control groups, respectively. An analysis of covariance adjusted for related variables showed a significant between-group difference in body weight change (p = 0.011).
