From postoperative day 1 (POD1) to POD6, both groups receive standard postoperative care. In addition to the standard postoperative care, the intervention group receives resistance training twice a day, three times a week, from POD7 to POD21. The control group continue to receive standard postoperative care from POD7 to POD21
The intervention group is given an Leucine-enriched essential amino acid supplement twice daily from POD7 to POD21.

We examined the effects of combining resistance exercise and LEAA supplementation on muscle loss during the first 3 weeks after gastrectomy. We found no significant difference in the rate of muscle loss between the intervention and control groups, suggesting that resistance training and LEAA supplementation did not prevent muscle loss. However, the intervention group showed a significant improvement in muscle strength and QOL score, suggesting a potential improvement in physical function and QOL.

Patients who were underwent gastrectomy for gastric cancer. This study did not establish eligibility criteria based on gender, surgical procedure, extent of resection, or chemotherapy.
Exclusion criteria were (1) difficulty performing exercises due to physical or severe cognitive dysfunction and (2) requirement for restriction of protein intake due to severe renal dysfunction.
All subjects were hospitalized and underwent surgery at the Same Hospital.
