Study design: Prospective observational and case-control study
Data content: Data to be collected will include age, gender, diagnosis, medical history, length of hospitalization (pre-admission period and admission period), outcome destination, Independence of Daily Living score (on admission and on discharge), Functional Independence Assessment score (on admission and on discharge), blood biochemical data (on admission), medications taken (on admission and during hospitalization), nerve conduction velocity in the lower legs speed (on admission and thereafter, and weekly during hospitalization), grip strength (on admission and at discharge), Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB), range of motion of lower extremity joints, plantar sensory testing, deep Achilles tendon reflex, gait status before admission and at discharge (method of mobility: independent walking, cane, walking wheel, wheelchair) ), and the presence or absence of falls during the hospitalization period.
Data collection method: Among the above data, age, gender, diagnosis, medical history, and blood biochemistry data will be collected from the electronic medical record. Independence of Daily Living Score and Functional Independence Score will be collected from the inpatient management software (Rehmate). The sensory nerve conduction velocity in the lower leg will be measured twice by the principal investigator using a nerve conduction velocity testing device (DPN Check HDN-1000: Fukuda Denshi) in a resting supine position (side or stomach) on the bed in the ward, and the average value of the two measurements will be used. Data on grip strength, SPPB, lower extremity joint range of motion, plantar sensory testing, Achilles tendon reflexes, and gait status at discharge will be collected by completing an evaluation form. For fall and tumble events during hospitalization, data will be collected by reviewing hospital incident reports.
